A quick reminder that our June meeting is coming up on Saturday, June 13, and we’d love to see more of you register.
I’ll be honest: when I first saw the topic of AI search and author branding, I had to sit with it for a bit to understand what it could mean for us as romance authors. Then I tried a simple search: “romance organizations in Southern California.”
OCRW appeared near the top of the regular search results, but when I clicked into Google’s AI Mode, OCRW didn’t show up in the answer at all.
That’s the part that made this topic feel more concrete to me.
Search is changing. Readers may not always see the same familiar list of links we’re used to. Google has been rolling out AI Overviews and AI Mode, which can summarize answers before people click through to websites.
For authors, that raises a real question:
When someone searches for you, your books, your series, or the kind of romance you write, what will they see... and will you even make it into the answer?
For romance authors, discoverability can depend on whether the internet clearly understands your genre, tropes, heat level, themes, emotional tone, series, and reader promise.
Our June speaker, Alicia McCalla, will be talking about author branding and visibility in this changing search environment. This is not a session about using AI to write fiction. It’s about understanding how search and discovery are changing around us, and how authors can think more clearly about being findable.
If you’ve ever searched your author name, book title, or genre terms to see what comes up, this may be worth your time.
